Remote Learning Offer

The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home?

Our remote curriculum is a blend of live lessons taught via Microsoft Teams online and pre-recorded video lessons on MyMaths and Oak National Academy platforms. This is supplemented with activities that will be uploaded to the live lesson each day by the teacher overseeing the class. The curriculum is closely matched to that taught face to face, in that it consists of English, Maths and wider curriculum activities every day. We believe this enables us to offer our children a broad and balanced curriculum whilst they are learning from home.

What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

Where a bubble closure is immediate and children are sent home from school, they will be sent home with a paper-based activity pack for that day to enable them to complete their learning at home.

Where a bubble closure happens in advance (e.g. the evening before or over the weekend) a link to the appropriate remote learning timetable will be sent out via the Class Story page on Class Dojo.  This will enable children to engage with learning immediately. Links to the virtual live-streamed lessons on Microsoft Teams will also be sent via Class Dojo every morning to ensure security.

will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

The maths and English scheme of work closely matches the route we will be taking in face-to-face lessons. Teachers have sequenced the remote learning offers for each individual class so that it follows the Long Term Planning route appropriate to the year group and ensures coverage of the curriculum. Remote learning plans will be regularly reviewed and adapted in response to assessment of learning in the same way as face-to-face teaching. The maths units have been chosen from a blend of White Rose and Oak National Academy lessons and exactly match the route that will be taken in face-to-face teaching. The texts used in English units, will complement those used in face-to-face teaching but are not designed to be identical. The rationale for this is to expose children to the widest range of reading materials possible. Units chosen for the wider curriculum are aligned to the program of study for each individual year group and follow the route taken in face-to-face teaching to ensure the correct curriculum coverage.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

Each class will be set 4 hours work per day. This will consist of:

  • 1 x hour live lesson Via Microsoft Teams (Links will be posted daily on the Class Dojo app for live lessons)
  • 1 x hour English activities
  • 1 x hour Maths activities
  • 1 x hour wider curriculum activities
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

The links to the right of the page to EYFS & KS1 resources and KS2 resources will provide you with a timetable for each day of remote learning. Class teachers have designed the timetables to try and keep things as normal as possible for learners by keeping to a similar timetable and structure as a day face-to-face. Live lessons taught via Microsoft Teams have been staggered between EYFS / KS1/ Y3&4/ Y5&6 so that where devices are shared within a household, the lessons do not take place at the same time.  On the timetable you will find links to the online learning platforms used, but here are the main links in case you need to refer back to them:

We are currently following the Oak National Academy programme as part of our remote learning offer.  All the lessons have been written by classroom teachers and follow the National Curriculum in the same way that we do. They have also been externally quality assured. They are easy to follow: simply select the relevant year group for your child and then choose the lessons you want to complete (always start at lesson 1 in the series and work in sequential order). There is a mixture of resources available to complement the video lessons so it's a great way to learn remotely.

All the Oak National resources can be found here: Oak National Academy

All children have logins to the online platform Purple Mash which can be found here: Purple Mash Login

Children in Y1 - Y6 also have individual logins for MyMaths which can be found here: MyMaths Login

Children in Y3 -  Y6 have logins for Bedrock Vocabulary which can be found here: Bedrock Login

Additional Sites that children also have login details for are:   Read Theory  /  TTRockstars

How will my child be taught remotely?

The remote curriculum will be a blend of:

  • live teaching (online lessons via Microsoft Teams)
  • recorded teaching (e.g. Oak National Academy lessons, video/audio recordings made by teachers)
  • printed paper packs produced by teachers (e.g. workbooks, worksheets)
  • textbooks and reading books pupils have at home
  • commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences such as MyMaths, TTRockstars and Purple Mash
  • A limited amount of project work and/or research activities to support the wider curriculum
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Work uploaded to platforms such as Purple Mash and MyMaths will be assessed online and feedback given to pupils via that platform. Pupils may be asked to review, edit or re-submit work if it is not completed to the expected standards. Work completed within live-streamed lessons will be assessed ' in the moment' with pupils receiving instant feedback. Where work is uploaded to a child's individual Class Dojo portfolio, feedback will be given by Class Teachers every 2-3 days.

what are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

Just as in face-to-face teaching we expect full engagement from learners, unless they are suffering ill health and cannot participate.

The key responsibilities for parents and carers are to ensure pupils engage with the following:

EYFS

  • Daily phonics practice
  • Daily Purple Mash activities
  • Daily virtual live-streamed lesson (Microsoft Teams)

KS1

  • Daily phonics practice
  • Daily reading practice
  • Daily Maths activity
  • Daily English Activity
  • Daily virtual live-streamed lesson (Microsoft Teams)
  • Daily wider curriculum task

KS2

  • Daily reading practice
  • Daily Maths activity
  • Daily English Activity
  • Daily virtual live-streamed lesson (Microsoft Teams)
  • Daily wider curriculum task
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

Class teachers will monitor levels of engagement on a daily basis and will keep a record of children who have not completed the allocated tasks. This will then be communicated to parents via the Class Dojo app.  It is expected that parents will then support children to catch up with any missed learning.

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

Regular communication with your child's class teacher via the Class Dojo app will be essential. Class teachers will be able to advise on strategies to help your child engage with remote learning and offer strategies to help scaffold and support learning. Our SEND and pastoral team will also be available to support with engagement.

Where children are working towards EHCP targets, class teachers, in conjunction with the SEND team, will ensure that these are regularly reviewed and that you are supported to help your child continue to work towards these at home.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

Where children do not have access to the internet or an internet-enabled device, a paper pack will be made available to them for use at home. In most year groups, additional workbooks have been sent home in advance, such as phonics home packs in EYFS and KS1 and English workbooks in UKS2. Work completed on paper can be photographed and uploaded to Class Dojo portfolios in order for class teachers to provide feedback and make assessments of the work undertaken. This is already a system in use for homework tasks and has proven to be a quick and easy way for learners and teachers to collaborate and for parents to receive feedback on work completed.

Additionally, we have a small number of DfE provided devices that, subject to signing a loan agreement, can be borrowed to complete online learning. We also have a small number of data-only SIM cards that can be distributed to anyone reliant solely on mobile data to access the internet. Please message the school via Class Dojo in the first instance to enquire about availability.

If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?

Remote learning for children who are self-isolating will be delivered in much the same way as the remote learning delivered during a bubble or class closure. Wherever possible, pupils will benefit from a virtual lesson which is being delivered face-to-face to their peers however, this may not always be practical or appropriate. Paper based learning packs will also be available for pupils who are self-isolating. Please enquire through the Class Dojo app if you need a paper pack.
